Tajweed refers to the set of rules that govern the pronunciation of the Quran during recitation, ensuring that each letter is articulated clearly and correctly according to its precise rules. Studying Tajweed is essential for preserving the authenticity and beauty of the Quranic recitation, as it was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). Mastery of Tajweed allows students to recite the Quran with accuracy and a sense of spiritual connection, enhancing the experience of Quranic study. It involves learning the characteristics of Arabic letters, rules for elongation (madd), nasal sounds (ghunnah), stopping and starting points, and more. Practicing Tajweed promotes a deeper understanding and respect for the Quran’s linguistic intricacies, fostering a lifelong commitment to proper recitation.
Tafsir is the study of Quranic exegesis, which involves elucidating the meanings, context, and purposes behind the verses of the Quran. This discipline plays a pivotal role in comprehending the divine guidance and instructions meant for humanity. Exploring Tafsir requires a comprehensive approach that includes understanding the historical and cultural context of revelation (Asbab al-Nuzul), examining the linguistic aspects, and considering the interpretations offered by renowned Islamic scholars. Tafsir enables students to connect with the Quran on a deeper level, allowing them to apply its teachings in their daily lives with wisdom and insight. Through Tafsir studies, learners gain an enriched perspective on theology, morality, law, and spirituality embodied in the Quran, enhancing both personal and communal Islamic practice.
Memorization of the Quran, often referred to as Hifz, is a spiritual practice deeply rooted in Islamic tradition, symbolizing a profound commitment to preserving the divine word. Embarking on this journey demands discipline, focus, and dedication, as students commit portions of the Quran to memory, gradually advancing towards the goal of memorizing the entire text. This process not only reinforces the ability to recite the Quran effortlessly but also embeds its guidance and wisdom into the hearts of those who engage in it. Memorization often involves a blend of techniques, including repetition, verse-by-verse learning, and revision sessions that reinforce retention. While embarking on Hifz is a remarkable spiritual achievement, it’s accentuated by a deeper connection with the Quran’s message, enriching one’s faith and practice through constant engagement with the sacred text.

At Kawun School, we are honored to work with a deeply dedicated and compassionate team of instructors for our Quranic Studies program. All our Quran teachers are highly educated Afghan women based in Afghanistan, each holding at least a Bachelor’s degree in Islamic Studies, Quranic Sciences, or related fields from well-respected universities. They bring with them years of experience in both in-person and online Quranic teaching, with a profound commitment to nurturing the faith, values, and cultural identity of Afghan children living abroad.
Our instructors are not only academically and spiritually qualified but have also been carefully selected for their exceptional ability to engage young learners. They create warm, supportive, and interactive online classrooms that meet the developmental, emotional, and spiritual needs of children aged 6 to 18. Each class combines modern child-centered teaching methods with the sacred tradition of oral Quranic transmission, fostering a balanced environment of learning, respect, and spiritual growth.
Due to the ongoing security challenges in Afghanistan, and to protect the well-being of these courageous and devoted educators, we have chosen to keep their identities confidential. This necessary precaution ensures they can safely continue providing these invaluable lessons without personal risk, while upholding the highest standards of teaching.
We assure all parents that every instructor at Kawun School has been thoroughly vetted, trained in child-centered, online Quranic education techniques, and is regularly monitored for teaching quality, Tajweed accuracy, and professional conduct. By enrolling your child in Kawun School’s Quranic program, you are not only offering them an invaluable opportunity to learn Tajweed, Tafsir, and Quranic memorization from native speakers — you are also actively supporting the empowerment of educated Afghan women committed to serving their communities and preserving our faith’s noble traditions in challenging times.
We believe this meaningful connection between Afghan children abroad and their homeland’s scholars and educators fosters a lifelong love for the Quran, strengthens cultural identity, and preserves the sacred bond of heritage and faith across generations.
